Comrade Elwin James Aultman Vietnam Veteran, Member VFW Post 6827
October 4, 2009 the family, friends and comrades bid farewell to their beloved friend Elwin James "Jim" Aultman. Jim was a loving husband, father and faithful friend to many at Post 6827 for a long time. It was with a heavy heart that we gathered together to bid our comrade farewell.
When his nation needed him, Jim answered the call. During his service he served honorably and with distinction. Jim was a humble hero. While serving in Vietnam he was awarded a Silver Star, the Bronze Star with two oakleaf clusters, and Purple Heart. He never forgot the brotherhood forged in battle and when he returned to civilian life Jim continued to honor those who served.
Jim was a brother who readily shared the largess of his good fortune, and also his great sense of humor. He was a quiet yet driving force behind VFW Post 6827. He never forgot the sacrifices made by not only himself and his family, but also those of all men and women who have served. His quick humor, firm handshake and devotion to those who had the honor of calling you friend will long be cherished.
Through the toughest of times Jim always was able to find humor and reason to laugh. A few years back when he got his new prosthetic leg Jim solemly invited us all to a ceremony behind the VFW. There he led us as he buried his old peg leg. Jim was one of a kind.
So it is with a heavy heart that we bid Jim goodbye. Goodbye til a better day. A day that each of us will face. But I know deep in my heart that as we approach that heavenly gate we will see a campfire burning not far away. And around that fire will be Jim and all his comrades, joking, and waiting for each of those of us who knew and loved him. We all look forward to that day when we will all be united in brotherhood again.
Rest in Peace my friend. Gone, but not forgotten.
